What are porcelain veneers?
Many people are dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth. Fortunately, porcelain dental veneers can help address a wide range of concerns. Made from wafer-thin porcelain, veneers are attached to the surface of the teeth to restore their appearance and correct imperfections with beautiful, completely natural-looking results. Our Brooklyn cosmetic dentist is extensively trained in the assessment and application of porcelain dental veneers. Both traditional and no-prep veneers are available from our state-of-the-art practice, and the right approach for you will depend on your unique needs and goals.
Contrary to common perception, veneers are not just for celebrities and other famous people. Veneers can help ANY person obtain the smile they’ve always wanted. Furthermore, by combining science and technology, we can obtain results that are indistinguishable from natural teeth.
What are the pros and cons of porcelain dental veneers?
Durable, long-lasting, and customized to achieve your desired outcome, dental veneers offer many advantages. Porcelain veneers can:
- Enhance the symmetry and proportion of the teeth
- Cover chips, cracks, gaps, stains, and minor misalignment
- Lengthen or shorten teeth
- Strengthen weakened or damaged teeth
- Last as long as 20 years (or more) with proper care
Porcelain veneers offer many benefits and can be a permanent procedure. There are, however, different options depending on your desired outcome. If you have any questions about the procedure, or what your options are, please ask our doctors.
What are the differences between no-prep and traditional veneers?
Traditional dental veneers often require a small amount of enamel to be removed from the surface of the tooth before the veneer is placed. This makes the procedure irreversible. No-prep veneers (also called prepless veneers) are simply attached to the exterior of the tooth, no filing necessary. No-prep veneers are also permanent, and this technique is not appropriate for everyone. Our dentists will discuss which approach offers you the optimal outcome based on your current dental health and expressed goals.
What is the porcelain veneers process like?
When you arrive for your initial consultation, our experienced team will evaluate you and discuss your concerns. Our dentists will take the time to explain the treatment plan in full, thoroughly reviewing the process to help you become well informed about each stage. We can also show you a simulation of the expected result, so you may preview the outcome and make adjustments as desired. The more input a patient provides, the better!
Tremendous care is placed on the initial consultation. Well-planned, detailed treatment leads to ideal execution. We want to hear about everything you would like to accomplish so that we can deliver just that.
After planning every detail of your treatment, you will be ready to begin. At your treatment visit, your teeth will be gently reshaped and prepared for the veneers (if using a traditional approach). A mold will then be taken of your teeth to guide the treatment process and to ensure the most precise and comfortable fit possible. Beautiful temporary veneers will be fabricated. It is important to note that you will NOT be without your smile at any time during treatment. At the next appointment, your teeth will be cleaned and then the permanent veneers will be bonded to them. No-prep veneers are a more conservative option, which does not require the teeth to be reshaped prior to placement of the veneers. We utilize Planmeca E4D technology, which makes it possible to manufacture state-of-the-art restorations like veneers the same day.
Porcelain Veneers Vs. Dental Crowns
You have many options when it comes to enhancing the look of your smile. Dental crowns can also improve the appearance of the teeth, but they are more commonly used to repair decay and damage, while porcelain veneers are designed to provide cosmetic enhancement alone. Dental crowns also require more filing and modification of the existing tooth than porcelain veneers, and they cover the entire tooth rather than just the front, as veneers do. We believe the most conservative approach is often the best, and preserving as much natural dental material as possible is in the patient’s interest. During your initial consultation, we can help you determine if a crown or a veneer would be better for your unique situation.
How much do porcelain veneers cost?
Cosmetic dentistry is an investment in your well-being, appearance, and confidence. Our skilled team prioritizes the long-term health of your smile, and we apply conservative methods to improve your dental aesthetics while preserving tooth strength and vitality. That said, it’s a normal part of considering a cosmetic treatment to keep in mind the cost of the procedure. We want you to have access to the information you need to make the ideal decision for your goals.
Porcelain veneers can range in price depending on many factors, including the number of teeth to be addressed, the complexity of the treatment, the technique used, and other details. Broadly speaking, porcelain dental veneers can vary from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. The best way to determine how much porcelain veneers will cost for you specifically is to schedule a consultation with our extensively trained dentist. A member of our dental team will review the fees associated with your customized program so you understand what to expect and why.
While we emphasize that price should not be the only, or even the most important, consideration when selecting your treatment, we understand it’s a point of interest for most patients. We are very transparent about our services to help you feel comfortable and confident in the chosen approach, and we encourage you to ask any questions and voice any concerns you may have during your one-on-one consultation with our dentists.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are designed to be long-lasting and beautiful for many years. Most patients find that their dental veneers remain in good shape for 10 years or more, potentially even decades. You can extend the length of treatment by brushing and flossing regularly and visiting the dentist for routine exams as recommended. Additionally, you should take care not to participate in any habits that could chip or damage your “caps.” We can provide examples during your appointment. If a cap does require repair, we can replace the veneer and restore your smile with minimal downtime.
At our office, your care and comfort are our highest priorities, and we utilize the most advanced technology possible to deliver an exceptional experience from start to finish. Contact us today to learn more about traditional and no-prep veneers or to schedule a consultation.
