Hello everyone. Since same day dentistry is something we now offer, and has made a lot of headlines lately, I thought we’d touch on what it is, how it can help, and what it can do for you.
What is same day dentistry? Let’s quickly back track. Normally, a crown, inlay, onlay, or veneer is made by taking impressions of the top and bottom teeth, and sending it out to a laboratory. You’re then left in temporaries for 2 to 3 weeks, at which point you return, get numb again, take the temporaries off, and cement the final restorations. Well, that’s a thing of the past.
Today we can make our restorations immediately, with no gagging impressions, and no temporaries. After the tooth is prepared we scan both the top and bottom jaw, as well as the way you bite. We then fabricate the restoration using software in our computers, and send it to a machine located right in our office. It’s not 3D printing however, it starts off as a block of material and gets trimmed down to the exact crown, inlay, onlay, or veneer we designed on the computer. We then check it for fit and make sure the bite is correct, then place it in an oven for 14 minutes to crystalize it, making it twice as strong. It takes a couple of minutes to cement and then you are done! Simple as that.
Same day dentistry is a fantastic way to get a great restoration and not waste any of your time. And remember, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our office or swing by. We will get you your answers. Until next time!
