Really simple one this month. I was reading an article this week that was discussing the many benefits of veneers. We all know that they produce absolutely beautiful results, are minimally invasive (i.e. you don’t have to grind the tooth down a lot), and can last for a very long time. But one of the reasons really stuck out to me. Properly polished porcelain veneers can actually HELP with plaque control. That’s right! They can help keep your mouth cleaner!
It’s really simple. Plaque, which is the stuff that causes bad breath, gum disease and gingivitis, and cavities, sticks to the teeth. When you have a super polished surface (like a porcelain veneer!) it’s harder for plaque to stick to. It’s even more difficult for that plaque to stick to the veneer than it is to your own natural teeth! Well if that’s not enough explanation points for the day I don’t know what it is. And there you have it. Just another way porcelain veneers, performed correctly, can help with not only your esthetic desires, but with your oral health. Until next time.
